Increase Your Home's Curb Appeal Without Breaking Your Budget

In today’s sluggish housing market it is even more important than ever for your home to have 'curb appeal'. Curb appeal is that little something extra that makes your home stand out from the crowd. A few simple ways to create 'curb appeal' include adding well-appointed flowerbeds, replacing old light fixtures, cleaning driveways, siding, decking and fencing.

When pressure washing vinyl siding yourself, be sure to set the pressure washer on a low setting to avoid damaging the siding. Using water alone to clean the surfaces will only push dirt around, instead, use a combination of bleach, TSP, and water . TSP is a heavy duty all-purpose cleaner that cuts through and removes heavy deposits of greasy dirt and grime from interior and exterior surfaces.

Dirty windows may not be visible from a distance but when a potential buyer gets up close, dirty windows can turn them off. Remember, when cleaning your home don't forget to clean windows inside and out.

Painting trim work, window shutters, and doors will help your home sparkle. Whether your home is a traditional two-story, a contemporary style, or cottage or bungalow, a brightly painted front door says 'welcome'. To spice up the front door, try a dramatic color like cherry red, bright yellow or cocoa brown.

And while you have your paint materials out, don't forget to paint window shutters, eaves, and downspouts. Shutters can be painted the same hue as your front door or if you really want to be bold, try using a complementary color.
